Is Your Company Culture Crying For Help?

Great company culture is readily identifiable. There is teamwork, innovation, and an overall sense of purpose. Best of all, companies with high morale, kill it operationally.  While everyone wants to create an enviable workplace, what happens if you find that you work culture is less than stellar? Companies with low team morale harm the business in more ways than one. It can hurt your brand, efficiency, and worst of all, your profits. Check out these four signs to gauge if your workplace culture needs a makeover.

Poisoning the well syndrome

There’s a reason why misery loves company—and unhappy employees are no different. Employees that are dissatisfied with their work situation tend to complain to their colleagues, widening the problem instead of seeking a solution. This is not to say that employees themselves are toxic. That said, they are creating a toxic environment for their peers. If left unresolved, they can influence new hires, perpetuating the cycle.

Lack of trust in management

The easiest way to spot a breakdown in employee/leader relations is through observation. Do your employees stop their conversations when you walk by? Maybe you’ve noticed in meetings that no one is asking questions are contributing to the conversation. These signs point to employees not trusting their leadership, which could spell trouble for operations down the line.

Complacent teams

Take a look at your team’s productivity. If you notice that they’re only committing to the bare minimum, something is amiss. Employees that are satisfied in their roles will often go above and beyond the call of duty for their employers. If your team is only doing enough to get back, you need a serious work culture intervention.

Lackluster Results

In order for companies to succeed, they have to generate revenue. If you’re seeing tepid sales results quarter after quarter, it’s a sign that the organization is not running on all cylinders. You may notice missed deadlines or a higher volume of mistakes. These are indications that leaders cannot afford to ignore.

Course correct your company culture

If you’ve noticed these issues within your team, understand that they are symptoms of a bigger problem within your workplace. Maybe everything started off on the right foot, but slowly derailed into a less than ideal workplace. Either way, it’s critical for leaders to get in front of the problem to begin the healing process and hop on the road to recovery. Collect honest feedback to see how your team feels about their work environment. It is through honest and transparent communication that leaders change their workplace culture.
